Daughter of The Blood by Anne Bishop

Penguin Books (Roc Imprint)
ISBN: 0-451-45671-8
412 Pages

A dark fantasy, Daughter of the Blood is a tale of a female dominated society, where the males are little more than slaves, in the bedroom and out of it. But a prophecy has been made and the two half-brothers, Daemon and Lucivar wait for the emergence of the Queen, who they will be honoured to serve, not forced to.

A long lived-race, the Blood await their Queen for hundreds of years, but when she finally emerges, she is only a child, and there are other forces at work who wish to harm her.

It is a well written tale, sensual and passionate, the characters vividly come to life. It is also a tale full of angst, betrayal and love. This is not the usual standard fantasy fare, it's something much more. It's grittier and darker, but an excellent read nonetheless.

Daughter of the Blood is available from Amazon, as are the two sequels, Heir to the Shadows and Queen of the Darkness.
