FEATURED AUTHOR

MARILYN MEREDITH

Marilyn's latest e-book is The Astral Gift. This book began as a paperback
published by a company that went out of business after printing 50 copies. She
co-published it with Golden Eagle Press and sold all the books. It is now an
e-book with The Fiction Works.

The Astral Gift is a mystery with a touch of the supernatural. Elaine
Brinsfield is an independent, attractive young woman who loves her job as a
day care teacher. To her viviacious roommate Caro Tovar and her coworkers,
it seems the only think missing in Elaine's life is a good man, a man like
Ken Lammerson, the handsome police officer Elaine meets who falls for her
head over heels.

But it's not that simple, a victim of childhood sexual abuse, Elaine can't
bear the thought of being touched by a man. She has also been gifted with
the ability of astral projection, a fascinating phenomenon--if it weren't
accompaned by the threatening appearance of ghostly evil spectral beings.

The power enables Elaine to solve a vicious murder, but skeptical cops make
her the number one suspect.

When did you first start writing?

Before I could actually write I drew picture books based on the soap operas
my mother listened to on the radio. My next experience was re-writing the
Little House on the Prairie books using my own characters. (I was only
around 9.) I did my own magazine when I was in Jr. High School with articles
and stories and sold it to my friends.

Why do you write?

Because I have to. Actually, it's the only world where I have some control.

What sort of books do you like to read?

Mostly mysteries, though I'll read anything if it's handy.

Who is your favourite author or has influenced your writing?

I have lots of favorite authors. I wish I could write like Jan Burke--but
I'm afraid I write like me.

If you could meet any character from a book, who would it be and why?

My own Deputy Tempe Crabtree because I already feel like I know her. She's been
living inside my head now for years and appears in two paperbacks from
Golden Eagle Press: DEADLY OMEN and UNEQUALLY YOKED.

What are you currently working on?

The third in the Tempe series is supposed to be out this fall, and I just
put the finishing touches on the fourth. I'm also working on a third in my
Rocky Bluff P.D. series which is with The Fiction Works.

What have you found to be the best way of promoting your book?

I try everything in promotion I can think of from getting as many reviews as
I can, to mentioning the latest book on as many lists as possible. I also do
booksignings and speak at libraries, clubs and service organizations.

And finally, What advice would you give to writers just starting out?

Be sure your book is ready to send out. Rewriting is the most important part of
writing. I'm an instructor for Writer's Digest School and deal with many new
writers--believe me, everyone makes the same mistakes in the beginning.

FINAL RESPECTS is the first in the Rocky Bluff P.D. series, also published
by the Fiction Works.

Mortician Stuart Honich dreams about sinking his teeth into the flesh of his
tormentors-his boss's daughters.

Being a cop was something Doug Milligan wanted since childhood, but his wife
hates his profession and Doug will soon have to make a difficult choice.

Publicity hound, Rick Strickland, will do anything to further his career,
and is having a secret affair with Liz Phelan, a divorcee with a drinking
problem.

A horrible murder begins a series of events that could lead to the
destruction of the entire Rocky Bluff Police department as well as many
innocent citizens.

The Rocky Bluff P.D. series shows how much a police officers is affected by
both the job and his or her family life.

My Deputy Tempe Crabtree series is located in a foothill community of the
southern Sierra much like the area where I live. Tempe is part Yanduchi
Indian, newly married to the local preacher and raising a teenaged son.
